Carl Reiner
"Inviting people to laugh with you while you are laughing at yourself is a good thing to do. You may be the fool but you're the fool in charge."

A star of American comedy, Carl Reiner was born in 1922 in The Bronx. After attending a drama workshop at the age of 16, he knew he wanted to be in show business. He is well known for acting, directing, producing, as well as being a recording artist. Mr. Reiner has won eight Emmy Awards (for acting, writing, and producing) and a Grammy Award.

In 1948 he made his TV debut in the series “The Fashion Story”, but the show didn’t last long. His first regular series was “The Fifty-Fourth Street Revue” in 1949. Mr. Reiner’s Broadway debut was the same year in the musical “Inside U.S.A.” that ran for 399 performances. His formal writing career began with “Caesar’s Hour”, at the same time he was working on a semi-autobiographical novel “Enter Laughing” which was published in 1958 and later turned into a movie in 1967.

In 1960, Mr. Reiner worked with Mel Brooks on “The Steve Allen Plymouth Show”, where their routine of “The 2000 Year Old Man” became a huge success and won them a Grammy Award. “The Dick Van Dyke Show” was a major success for which he won five Emmys (three for writing and two for producing). The show was also his first experience as director. Some of the films he directed include “The Comic” (1969), “Going Ape” (1970), “Oh, God” (1977), and “The Jerk” (1979).

Carl Reiner continues to be active in Hollywood and can be seen in shows such as “Hot in Cleveland” and “Parks and Recreation. A star of American comedy, Carl Reiner was born in 1922 in The Bronx.
